Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been sidelined since August due to knee surgery. Hoped to return at the start of this month, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when increasing his training and could not progress “the required stage.”

“Our experience helped us build a group that is far more dependable and has more options,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a dilemma for the midweek match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between persisting with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Additional concerns affect centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Chelsea match. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the backline for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on new players ahead of this season has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to deal with such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was benefiting their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Yes, as this campaign has been worse in the attacking line, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Star

Addressing the delay noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have overcome that hurdle.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration being outside.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he's rarely been injured, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back around the team playing because I believe it’s going to be a massive boost.”
