As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Recent Strikes

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amid Pressure

The government has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
